The Newsletter serves several purposes. It informs, it helps people to find out about their long-lost contemporaries, it delights and amuses (we hope!) but above all it gives members an opportunity to reminisce. The Newsletter is what the members make it: it relies solely for its existence on the contributions of members. So please help to keep it going by making a contribution. A short article about what you’ve done in your life since school, an amusing incident you remember, even your views on education today; we should all be able to contribute something. See the ‘Contact Us’ page for how to get in touch.
To date we have published 33 issues of the newsletter. Printing and postage costs for a single issue are of the order of £250. We have only had one colour issue and the printing cost for that was almost three times that for the monochrome issue. Because of increased postal charges on C4 envelopes all issues from No. 30 will be posted in C5 envelopes though the A4 format of the newsletter will be retained. We currently post nearly 400 copies of each issue.
If you require a good quality printed copy of the newsletter the best option is to download the PDF file which is available on the web site. You will need the Adobe Acrobat software on your computer - the latest free version is called Adobe Reader. Many people already have this or an earlier Acrobat version installed and it is available free on many computer magazine discs and on web sites. A link is provided, in the left-hand column, to the Adobe website. The file for Adobe Reader is rather large and may take some time to download. When you have Acrobat/Reader installed click on a PDF file button on the left ( the last 6 newsletters are available to download), Acrobat will load automatically into your web browser and download the PDF file. You may read the Newsletter on screen or save it to read later.
We strongly recommend that, if you don’t have Acrobat or Adobe Reader, you download it or acquire it by other means. If you are not too happy about doing this for yourself there are plenty of computer-literate folk around who would be only too willing to help. If you have recently upgraded from Internet Explorer 6 to Version 7 you might find it necessary to upgrade Adobe Reader to Version 8 in order to see the newsletter displayed on screen. Use the link provided in the left-hand column.
For help with navigating with the Adobe Reader or with printing out the Newsletter click the Help button in the left-hand block.
Please note that, where a newsletter contains photographs, the quality of the photographs has been reduced in order to improve download speeds. Copyright-free copies of the photographs, in colour where applicable, will be available for download from our Photographs page.
